Q
What are the differences between the Nimble resolver and other OSGi resolvers?
A

Some of the Nimble resolver's key differentiators are:

  • Speed - it's very fast, usually instantaneous
  • Full lifecycle support - it doesn't just resolve and install dependencies, it can also remove them again when they're no longer needed
  • Ease of use. You'll be getting useful work done with it in 5 minutes
  • More built in dependency types - e.g. understands the need for common runtimes such as SpringDM, Declarative Services and iPOJO
  • Extensibility. Creating your own dependency types and deployable types is straightforward
  • Diagnostics. Useful summaries of unresolved dependencies and full resolution trace are available
  • Policy base resolution: You can set policies which influence the resolution process

Q
As it’s distributed under a commercial license does that mean I have to pay to use Nimble?
A

No, Nimble is provided as free download with a renewable 30 day license. The license can be renewed manually every 30 days.  However it is assumed that anyone wishing to use Nimble in a production environment would wish to obtain a perpetual license so removing this 30 day time out. Please note it is expressly forbidden in the Nimble License terms to automate the renewal of the 30 day license or to use any methods or procedures to circumvent the 30 day time out.

Q
What does a Nimble perpetual license offer?
A

The Nimble perpetual license allows for up to four (4) concurrent instances of Nimble to be run on a single machine, removing the need to manually renew the free 30 day license, and is intended for the use of Nimble in production environments. Each perpetual license is valid for a major release of Nimble and all minor upgrades i.e. 1.0 to 1.1 to 1.2, etc. A new perpetual license will be required for major releases of Nimble i.e. 1.x to 2.x.

If a major release of Nimble is made within 12 months of your purchase of a Nimble perpetual license you are entitled to a free upgrade to the next major release i.e. 1.x to 2.x. To obtain this please contact us providing your contact details, the date of your original perpetual license purchase and any purchase reference.

Please note the Nimble perpetual license does not provide any commercial support for Nimble.
